G-7 Summit 2024

G-7 Summit 2024 I am honored to accept Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s invitation to travel to the Apulia region in Italy for the G7 Outreach Summit on June 14, 2024.

This marks my first visit in the third consecutive term, and I am delighted that it is to Italy for the G-7 Summit. I fondly recall my participation in the G20 Summit in Italy back in 2021. Prime Minister Meloni’s visits to India last year have been pivotal in advancing our bilateral agenda. We are committed to strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Italy, enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and Mediterranean regions.

At the Outreach session, discussions will center around artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean. This presents an opportunity to align the outcomes of the G20 Summit held under India’s Presidency with the upcoming G7 Summit and deliberate on issues crucial for the Global South.

I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to meet with other leaders attending the Summit.

 G-7 Summit 2024

Namaskar,

I extend my sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Meloni for the gracious invitation to this Summit and for the warm hospitality extended to us. I also wish Chancellor Olaf Scholz a very happy birthday. This G-7 summit holds special significance as we commemorate its 50th anniversary. Congratulations to all my esteemed colleagues of the G-7.

Dear Friends,

Last week, many of you were engaged in the European Parliament elections, while others will soon experience elections in your respective countries. A few months ago in India, we witnessed a monumental electoral process: over 2600 political parties, more than 1 million polling booths, 5 million Electronic Voting Machines, 15 million polling staff, and approximately 970 million voters, with 640 million exercising their right to vote.

This massive exercise, conducted with transparency and facilitated by technology, culminated in results declared within hours. It was the largest democratic event in history, a testament to our ancient values as the cradle of democracy. I am privileged that the people of India have entrusted me with their mandate for a third consecutive term—a first in six decades. Their resounding support is not just a victory for India, but for democracy worldwide. I am honored to join you all mere days after assuming office.

Esteemed Leaders,

The 21st century is defined by technology, permeating nearly every facet of human existence. While technology propels us towards space exploration, it also poses challenges such as cybersecurity. It is our collective responsibility to ensure technology’s benefits reach all strata of society, bridging social gaps and empowering individuals.

India advocates transforming technological monopolies into widespread usage, fostering creativity over destruction. Our human-centric approach includes a National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence, encapsulated in our “AI for All” mantra. As a founding member and lead chair of the Global Partnership for AI, we promote global cooperation in AI governance. At last year’s G-20 Summit hosted by India, we emphasized the imperative of international collaboration in AI governance, reaffirming our commitment to a transparent, secure, and responsible AI future.

India’s energy strategy rests on four pillars: availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. We are proud to have met our COP commitments ahead of schedule and are steadfast in achieving Net Zero by 2070. Let us collectively strive for a greener future. Through initiatives like Mission LIFE—Lifestyle for Environment—and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign launched on World Environment Day, we aim to transform tree planting into a global movement driven by personal responsibility and global solidarity. I invite all of you to join this initiative, details of which will be shared by my team.

Esteemed Leaders,

India commits to becoming a developed nation by 2047, ensuring that no section of our society lags behind in our development journey. This commitment extends to our international cooperation efforts, particularly with countries of the Global South facing global uncertainties and tensions. India champions their priorities and concerns on the global stage, with a special focus on Africa. As chair of the G-20, India advocated for the African Union’s permanent membership, underscoring our commitment to Africa’s economic, social, and security development.

Esteemed Leaders,

Today’s meeting reflects a profound convergence of priorities among our nations. We look forward to continuing our dialogue and cooperation with the G-7 on these critical issues.

Thank you very much.
