In a Strategic Win, Indian Army’s Operation Mahadev Takes Down Three Terrorists in Kashmir
Srinagar, July 29, 2025 – In a bold and precise counter-terror operation, the Indian Army’s elite Para Commandos neutralized three heavily armed terrorists on the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, codenamed “Operation Mahadev”, marked a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the valley.
One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Sulieman alias Asif, the alleged mastermind behind the Pahalgam terror attack that shook the region on April 22, 2025. His elimination is being hailed as a major success by both security forces and intelligence agencies.
Who Were the Other Two Killed in the Encounter?
According to officials, the other two terrorists neutralized in the encounter were identified as:
- Jibran – Allegedly involved in the Sonamarg Tunnel attack in October 2024.
- Hamza Afghani – A foreign terrorist with suspected ties to cross-border terror networks.
The encounter took place after the Army launched a swift and surprise cordon-and-search operation based on actionable intelligence. The team encountered heavy resistance, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire that lasted several hours.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
From the site of the encounter, the following weapons and war-like stores were recovered:
- One American-made M4 Carbine
- Two AK-series rifles
- High-grade ammunition and tactical gear
The recovery of these advanced weapons suggests the militants were part of a well-equipped and trained module.
‘Operation Mahadev Was a Long-Drawn Battle’ – IGP Kashmir
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, termed the mission a “long-drawn and meticulously planned operation”. He added that this success would send a strong message to other active militants in the region.
The Chinar Corps, based in Srinagar, also confirmed the success of the operation in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), commending the bravery and precision of the forces.
Increased Security and Further Threats
In light of ongoing threats, additional security forces have been deployed in the region. Intelligence reports suggest the possible presence of another group of terrorists in the area, prompting high-alert security surveillance and increased patrolling.
The bodies of the slain terrorists were handed over to local authorities for identification and final legal formalities under standard operating procedures.
