Starlink Clarifies India Pricing Error, Says Services Still Not Open for Orders

Starlink has clarified that it has not started accepting orders in India and has not announced any official pricing for its satellite internet service in the country. Confusion began when the company’s website briefly displayed a subscription fee of ₹8,600 per month.

Lauren Dreyer, Starlink’s Vice President of Business Operations, posted on X on December 8 explaining that the figures appeared because of a configuration glitch that accidentally exposed internal test data. She added that the numbers were incorrect and that the issue had been resolved. According to Dreyer, Starlink is still focused on completing the final government approvals required before activating services and reopening its India website.

The company had previously mentioned the ₹8,600 subscription as part of a plan offering unlimited data, a 30-day trial and a weather-resilient connection with more than 99.9 percent uptime. However, Starlink says none of these details are final.

India’s space regulator granted Starlink a licence to operate earlier this year, ending a long wait that began in 2022. The government has yet to decide whether satellite spectrum will be allocated directly or auctioned.

Once spectrum-related decisions are finalised, Starlink will need to build its ground stations and complete the necessary security checks and network trials. Reports suggest the company began technical demonstrations and testing in October.

The article has been updated with Starlink’s latest statement.
