‘Akhanda 2’ Release Pulled Hours Before Premiere; Fans Left Confused After Sudden Cancellation

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much-anticipated “Akhanda 2”, earlier set to hit theatres on December 5, has been postponed without a new release date. The decision came shortly after all paid premiere shows in India were abruptly called off, leaving fans stunned.

The production team shared an emotional note on social media, saying,
“With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as planned due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand how disappointing this is for fans and movie lovers.”

Premiere Cancellation Sparks Uncertainty

Confusion started earlier in the day when 14 Reels Plus confirmed that all Indian premiere screenings scheduled for Thursday had been cancelled due to technical issues.
Their post on X read:
“#Akhanda2 premieres in India scheduled for today stand cancelled due to technical issues. We’ve tried our best, but some things were out of our control. Sorry for the inconvenience. Overseas premieres will continue as planned.”

High Hopes After Censor Clearance

“Akhanda 2: Thaandavam” had created heavy buzz after receiving a U/A certificate, signaling a smooth path toward release. As the sequel to the blockbuster mass entertainer “Akhanda,” expectations were at an all-time high for director Boyapati Sreenu and Balakrishna to deliver another crowd-pleasing hit.

The project is helmed by Boyapati Sreenu, with music by Thaman S, cinematography by C. Ramprasad, and editing by Tammiraju.

With “Akhanda” still enjoying a massive fan base thanks to Balakrishna’s commanding performance and Thaman’s electrifying score, the sequel carried huge expectations. Balakrishna’s last release was “Daaku Maharaaj.”
